Gore High School/Upper Elementary Teacher Spotlight

Calvert Reading comes from a long line of educators and preachers. In fact, both of his parents were teachers. "It seemed to me teaching was the obvious choice," Calvert says. Originally from a family deeply rooted in education, Calvert completed a business degree and entered the workforce, but soon realized there was more to life than the daily grind. "I quickly realized there was more to life than work, sleep, and repeat. I decided I wanted to give something back to the next generation."

Now, as an HS English teacher and Senior Class Sponsor at Gore, Calvert finds joy in watching students grow and succeed. "I enjoy seeing the light come on in their eyes, a child nailing their first spoken part in a play, and having them go on to surpass my wildest expectations to be successful in whatever path they choose."

Calvert’s life motto is simple yet powerful: "I do what I can," a reminder to always give their best in all things.

We’re grateful for Calvert’s dedication and passion for education!
